Wall of Food

The Wall of Food is a series of paintings dealing with the cross-cultural  juxtapositions of foods from various countries. It was exhibited with Kittoe Contemporary.

It is a chance to reflect on the diversity of food in history and the social standing of foods and dishes that are now so readily available to us all. Predominantly this wall of food is a memory of significant dishes past from my travels.

Beginning in London in the 1970s with visits to Wheelers and Madame Prunier with my family - a traditional full English breakfast which was originally intended to break the fast for the true hard workers in the morning through to the Bastardisation of an American dish of Mac & Cheese representing the American depression in the 1930s.

Finishing off like a dessert with an elaborate steeped in history patisserie of a Rose Religiuese from Laduree in Paris. In contrast to equally beautiful though in colour only, Chinese lurid green & pink cakes with synthetic sculptured pipped icing. Viewed from walking around China town in London.
